This year its all about the S. In this case, the S stands for speed, a nod to the increased processor and memory bump from the iPhone and iPhone 3G. This time around you'll find a 600MHz processor and users now have an option of 32GB, though the S comes in a 16GB flavor and the iPhone 3G 8GB will still be available as well. Other improvements include voice control, improved battery life and Mobile OSX 3.0. So, the $64,000 question remains, is it worth the upgrade? Stay tuned for our full review soon! It is doubtful that President Obama would give up his trusty BlackBerry for a BlockBerry 9500. Still, you have to laugh at the absurdity of the situation when an obvious knock off of a legitimate phone has a major feature in it that the original has left out. We're talking about Wi-Fi which the BlockBerry offers. The Storm knock off is powered by WindowsMobile 6.1, is equipped with a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, FM radio and GPS. The BlockBerry 9500 is offered in 6 colors and has 3G/EDGE connectivity. The caption that is included with the picture of the President reads "Obama has BlackBerry, I have BlockBerry," And if you have BlockBerry, you have Wi-Fi, with the real Storm...not so much.

It's no surprise that Rapid Repair would be on hand for the launch of the iPhone 3G S and give it their usual special treatment. Not every device will warrant a full step-by-step instructions on how to carefully take apart a device ever so carefully. The iPhone 3G S got that specific treatment – so now you can see in glory the inner workings of it. The team over at Rapid Repair got their hands on one at a midnight opening over at an Orange Boutique in France. From there, they quickly photographed and recorded for all the world to see their crafty operation of another iPhone device. Just keep in mind to have the proper tools they mention on their site at hand if you plan on performing the same procedure.

Doom and gloom warnings about a new Microsoft operating system from some corners sure aren't anything new, but it looks like a particular licensing issue with Windows 7 could well cause some serious headaches for businesses transitioning from Windows XP. As InfoWorld reports, as things stand now, businesses that buy PCs before April 23, 2010 with Windows 7 preinstalled will have the option to downgrade them to Windows XP, which will let them upgrade to Windows 7 whenever they're finally ready to make the transition. Businesses that buy Windows 7-loaded PCs on or after April 23rd, however, will only have the option to downgrade to Windows Vista which, as Gartner analyst Michael Silver notes, is obviously of little help to XP-based organizations. Of course, Windows 7 does have its much talked about XP Mode, but Silver says that won't help many businesses since their IT departments would still be faced with the added workload resulting from managing a whole new OS. There are, however, a few workarounds, like Microsoft's Software Assurance Program, but those all involve an added cost, added work, or both.

As anyone reading this blog must already know, this is the big week where Apple releases their official 3.0 FW to the public (Wednesday), and then the new iPhone2,1 hardware, aka the iPhone 3GS (Friday).

On Tuesday evening (just before the big Apple release) we’ll do a live demo of the yellowsn0w carrier unlock working on official 3.0 firmware. The actual link for the feed will be twittered by @MuscleNerd and also placed here when the feed starts. The demo should answer everything you need to know about the new yellowsn0w. But it’s good news for iPhone 3G unlockers everywhere.

Meanwhile, we’re in the middle of testing our PwnageTool and QuickPwn tools, which will work with iTunes 8.2. The jailbreak of course continues to work on 3.0 for all devices it ever worked on, thanks due the Pwnage 2.0 technique released last summer. Our tools will be released no sooner than the Apple release (just in case!).

P.S. For the new iPhone 3GS, please don’t expect periodic updates about any progress we have or don’t have. Nothing gives Apple the upper hand like someone tweeting or blogging partial hack results. That’s not how cat & mouse is played :) That’s how the cat gets fed.

Update 1:

* Only ultrasn0w is going to take til Friday to get pushed out. All of our other tools should be out pretty soon after the official Apple release.
* If you apply our jailbreak when it comes out, you can install ultrasn0w anytime after that. You obviously won’t have cell service in the meantime, though.
* This may in fact be directly applicable to the iPhone 3GS if it can be jailbroken, because it runs the same baseband version. Whether or not it can be jailbroken is a big question right now!
* If you’re on Twitter, please give @Oranav a pat on the back. He could have revealed the crash he found to Apple and maybe gotten quite an incentive in return. Instead, he told us about it so that we could work it into an injection vector for the soft unlock.

The iPhone Dev-Team (no relation) have been teasing us for a little bit now with what they've been saying is an iPhone OS 3.0-compatible version of yellowsn0w, and tonight in a video presentation they unveiled ultrasn0w, which should let you unlock any iPhone on the market, running any version of the firmware from 3.0 on down. The trick to how they're getting the jailbreak hasn't been revealed yet for fear of Apple making a fix at the eleventh hour, but if everything goes according to plan, the new hacking software should be out Friday in time for the iPhone 3G S (no guarantee it'll work on the new device).
